Itinerary

Day1

Lukla is the starting point of our short EBC trek 9 days. We reach Lukla by taking a short flight either from Kathmandu airport or Ramechhap airport. The flight will be scenic both ways and offers a stunning panorama of the Himalayas. Upon landing at Lukla airport, we will begin trekking to Phakding village with our group and porters.

Phakding is a small village below Lukla. Descending to Phakding on the same day as flying to Lukla allows one to acclimatize and avoid altitude sickness. The trail gently drops along the Dudh Koshi river through lush rhododendron forests. On the way, we will also trek past small villages like Chheplung (2,660 m) and Ghat (2,592 m).

Day2

On the way to Namche Bazaar from Phakding, we will cross the long Hillary Bridge and many small suspension bridges over the Dudh Koshi river. Likewise, the trail also passes by villages like Toktok (2,760 m), Bengkar (2,630 m), Monjo (2,835 m), etc. The permits are registered in Monjo village. The trail follows lush magnolia and rhododendron forests. We also trek following rough hillsides, enjoying the greenery of the region and the occasional view of mountains. 

The final ascent to Namche Bazaar is a bit steep, so you have to be careful while trekking. Namche Bazaar is the tourist hub Khumbu region. Trekkers acclimatize here before continuing trekking to the base camp of Mount Everest. This village has all the services, including ATMs, cafes, restaurants, internet, souvenir shops, gear shops, museums, etc.

Day3

Leaving Namche Bazaar, the trail ascends to Kyangjuma (3,550 m). From here, we will descend to Phungi Thanga (3,250 m) and cross a suspension bridge. The trail then ascends to Tengboche village. Usually, trekkers spend a night here after Namche Bazaar, but we will descend further to Pangboche village. In Tengboche, we will visit the biggest monastery in the Khumbu region. 

The view of Mt. Everest and Mt. Ama Dablam is phenomenal from here. The trail further descends through rhododendron forests to Deboche (3,320 m). We'll keep descending till Imja Khola arrives & cross a bridge over it before walking to Pangboche village. In Pangboche village, you will visit one of the oldest monasteries in the Khumbu region that also claims to house the skull of Yeti.

Day4

After a delicious breakfast, we will leave Pangboche village and trek through small settlements like Shomare (4,010 m) and Orsho (4,190). The trail ascends to Dingboche village. We will trek past many terrace fields. Dingboche is the second acclimatization point on the standard 14 days EBC trek, but we will not stop there. 

After lunch in Dingboche village, we descend and navigate a glacier field. The trail further steeply ascends to Dusa (4,503 m) and continues to Thukla (4,620 m). This place has a few lodges that serve the trekkers. The mountain views are close and excellent as we are above the treeline.

Day5

Today, we will reach Everest base camp. From Thukla, the trail continues along the Khumbu Glacier and takes us to Lobuche village. The terrain is much more rocky and steep than the last few days. After Lobuche village, the trail climbs to Gorak Shep. This is the last settlement before the base camp of Mount Everest. We will leave our heavy luggage here.

From Gorak Shep, we will trek further to the Everest base camp. The trail follows boulder fields and ascends and descends, crossing small glacial streams. Upon reaching EBC, we can see the famous Khumbu Icefall and many tents of mountaineers getting ready to climb Everest. After spending some time at the base camp, we will retrace the path back to Gorak Shep to spend the night.

Day6

On this day, we will wake up early in the morning before dawn and hike to Kala Patthar to witness a gorgeous sunrise. Kala Patthar also offers stunning views of Everest and other surrounding mountains. After enjoying the view, we will trek back to Gorak Shep and collect our luggage before starting the trek to Pangboche village. 

From Gorak Shep, we will follow the same trail back to Pangboche village. The trail descends to Lobuche village and ascends to Thukla. From here, we trek and gradually ascend to Dingboche village. The trail then descends via lush forests to Pangboche village.

Day7

Day8

Namche Bazaar to Lukla is the same trail. We will trek past Monjo and Phakding village. The later part of the trail ascends along the river via small settlements to Lukla.

Day9

Our short EBC trek comes to an end. We will fly back to Kathmandu early in the morning. The flight offers final aerial views of the Himalayas. Visit nearby tourist sites and join us for a farewell dinner in the late evening. If your muscles are very sore, you can take a body massage as well.

Can I trek solo to Everest base camp?

Yes, you can trek solo to Everest base camp. However, trekking alone can get very challenging because you have to take care of transportation and logistics by yourself. It will add extra hassle, especially in the peak trekking seasons when most of the lodges and tea houses along the trail are fully booked. Is the Short Everest base camp trek difficult?

The short Everest base camp trek begins with a leisurely walk from Lukla and gradually transitions into more demanding paths as you venture deeper into the Khumbu region. Trekking through lush forests and verdant hillsides, you will come across rocky gorges, moraines, and glacier fields. Each day involves at least six hours of trekking. 

From Pahdking to Namche Bazaar and Dingboche to Lobuche, the trail is a bit challenging. This part of the trail involves steep climbing. You will cross suspension bridges over rivers and streams. Many parts of the trail ascend along cliff sides, providing you with a clear view of the hills, valleys, and mountains.

Our Everest base camp trek 9 days covers 130 kilometers in total. From Lukla, the Everest base camp is situated 65 kilometers away. And you cover an equal distance to return to Lukla from the base camp. 

Altitude Sickness

You might have heard about altitude sickness during the EBC trek. Well, it is not something you should worry about too much. Altitude sickness is common while traveling in the mountains and can be avoided if you follow our instructions. Be aware of the symptoms and employ preventive measures; you will be fine. If you feel any discomfort, our guide will take care of you.

What are the tips for Short Everest base camp trek?

Travel Insurance: For the short Everest base camp trek, travel insurance is an essential requirement. Participants are obliged to provide Nature Excursion with a copy of their travel insurance before embarking on the journey. This insurance policy must encompass medical coverage and expenses associated with helicopter rescue and evacuation at high altitudes.

  • Passport & Visa: Travelers who are not Indian nationals are required to get a visa to enter Nepal, while Indian nationals are exempt from this requirement. Most visitors have the option of obtaining an on-arrival visa at the Tribhuvan International Airport. You will need a valid passport with at least six months remaining, a passport-sized photograph, and the stipulated visa fee. The overall fee for a 30-day stay is USD 50. 
  • Trek Group: Opting for our guided trekking experience, you can choose between trekking as part of a group or embarking on a private expedition for a more personalized experience. Our trekking groups are kept small, accommodating a maximum of 8 participants at once. Moreover, we also organize short Everest base camp treks for larger groups upon request.
  • Luggage: To ensure your trekking experience is seamless, we provide one porter for every two trekkers. Note that the weight limit for each traveler's luggage is set at 10 kg. Our porters adhere to a maximum weight of 20 kg.
