Best time to trek to Langtang valley

Nepal has four seasons: spring (March to May), summer/monsoon (June to August), autumn (September to November), and winter (December to February). All seasons have different highlights. Some of the months offer the best trekking conditions, whereas some of them are not suitable weather-wise.

The best time to do the Langtang valley trek is in the spring and autumn seasons. Winter trekking is also fine and adventurous, but the challenges increase. And if you do not mind muddy trails and bugs, we can organize the Langtang valley trek in the summer/monsoon season too.

Langtang valley trek in spring

Spring in Langtang, from March to May, is considered the best time to trek in the region. The weather is mild, with temperatures ranging from 10°C to 20°C during the day and around 0°C at night. The region is lush with greenery, and the rhododendron forests are in full bloom, making for a stunning sight

Langtang valley trek summer/monsoon

In the Langtang region, the weather patterns are heavily influenced by the monsoon season, which typically runs from June to mid-September. During this time, the region receives heavy rainfall, leading to an increase in temperature and humidity. The monsoon season brings a lot of moisture, making it difficult to trek through the region's trails. Landslides and flash floods are common during this time.

Langtang valley trek in autumn

During the autumn months, from September to November, the weather in Langtang is generally mild and dry. The temperatures during this time range from 10°C to 20°C during the day and can drop to -5°C at night. The skies are generally clear, providing excellent visibility for trekkers to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Langtang region.

Langtang valley trek in winter

Winter in Langtang, from December to February, is characterized by cold temperatures and dry weather. Temperatures can drop to as low as -10°C, especially at higher elevations, making it difficult to trek through the region's trails. However, the scenery during this time is stunning, with snow-capped peaks and frozen rivers.

Accommodation during the Langtang valley trek

During the Langtang valley trek, we typically opt for guest house accommodations, which are the most prevalent form of lodging in the region. Staying in a guesthouse is akin to experiencing a homestay, as you will be spending your nights in the homes of the locals, which provides a unique opportunity to gain a deep understanding of their way of life.

The guest houses themselves are rather basic, offering both single and twin-shared occupancy options. The rooms are compact and minimally decorated, and the washrooms may be shared or private. However, we take care to ensure that the guesthouses we book for you are clean and comfortable, providing you with a pleasant place to spend the night.

Food on Langtang trek

The food options on the Langtang valley trek are quite good. You will have the typical Nepali meal, dal bhat, available in all the guest houses. Along with that, you will also get many other varieties of food like momo, noodles, pasta, sandwich, soups, thukpa, thenduk, Tibetan bread, porridge, etc. For breakfast, you have options such as bread, eggs, oats, fruits, museli, porridge, roti tarkari, etc.

Drinking water is available in all the guest's houses. You can refill your water bottle free of cost and use water purification tablets to double-purify it. We recommend you not drink water from a stream or tap directly. You may get an upset stomach, and it is better to avoid meat dishes too. Similarly, you can buy snacks and beverages in the tea shops along the trail.

Travel Visas and Permits for Langtang valley trekking

A Nepali travel visa is easy and quick to obtain. You will need a valid passport, your general information, and the required visa fee. Nepal offers on-arrival visas to many nationalities. It means you can obtain a travel visa upon arriving at the Tribhuvan International Airport or any land border.

Do check the visa status for your country because citizens of some countries are not eligible for on-arrival visas. Travelers from those countries can apply for a Nepali travel visa at the consulate office or Nepalese Embassy in their country.
