The Best Time to Do Everest Base Camp Trekking

While outlining your trek to Everest Base Camp, you must know your goal. If you are looking for a clear blue sky with magnificent mountains, then autumn will be the best time to trek, but if you are planning for blooms of colorful flowers with vibrant hills and eye-catching mountains, then spring will be the best time to trek. For the adventure enthusiast, both seasons will be worth it. In Nepal, we have four seasons, and their weather conditions are explained accordingly. Which may help you choose your trip to Everest Base Camp at the best time.

Trekking to Everest Base Camp during the autumn (from September to November)

While walking towards Everest Base Camp during the autumn, you will acquire satisfying weather and a clear blue sky from Mother Nature. Travelers who travel during the autumn will have the best time of the year to encounter alluring snow-capped mountains with beautiful landscapes. If you want to spend more days in the Everest region, you can even expand your trip through the Everest Base Camp via Gokyo Lake.

The temperature during trekking to Everest Base Camp will be pleasant and warm at the start of the season and get colder and colder by the end of the season.

There will be normal and regular flights to Lukla during the autumn, but during the monsoon, due to unfavorable weather, trekkers may cancel the trip or need to choose other destinations. So autumn will be the best time of the year to trek the Everest Base Camp Trek, which falls from September to November.

Everest Base Camp Trek: Spring (March to May)

Trekking to Everest Base Camp during the spring is another peak time when many travelers select their trip. At the time of spring, the vibrant hills become colorful with blooms of rhododendron flowers, along with panoramas of dazzling white mountains, including Mt. Everest, making your journey more fun and memorable. It is the time for newborn bushes, which make the surroundings green and  may give travelers positive vibes and energy. If you have extra days in Nepal and want to explore Everest Base Camp differently, there is an option to reach Everest Base Camp via Gokyo Lake, which offers you an amazing glimpse of five Gokyo lakes, a panoramic vista of snow-capped mountains, and Chaula Pass.

During spring, the weather is humid, and the temperature will be warmer in the afternoon. For people who don't like extreme cold and find it hard to adjust to it, this is the best time for them to do Everest Base Camp trekking.

During the spring, the flight to Lukla will also be regular and normal, but sometimes it might be delayed due to weather. The weather in the mountains is unpredictable, and no one is sure what will happen next. So, if you are planning to do the Everest Base Camp Trek, keep your extra 2–3 days. If the flight is delayed, you will have time to fly the next day. In my trekking experience in Nepal, I have seen many travelers with tight schedules have problems due to unfavorable weather.

Trekking to Everest Base Camp during the spring is the best time for travelers to do it, when you will encounter an amazing glimpse of nature.

Everest Base Camp Trek during the Winter

Namche

Winter falls from December to February, which is the coldest month of the year. During winter, the temperature normally goes from -5 degrees Celsius in the daytime to -15 degrees Celsius in the evening, and there will be snowfall from the mid of the winter. If you are planning to trek to Everest Base Camp during the winter, you need to be well prepared with warm trekking gear.

People even do Christmas and New Year's trips to Everest Base Camp, which comes in the winter (December and January). This would be an amazing time to celebrate such occasions.

If you are planning your vacation in the meantime but cannot adjust to the extreme cold, there are options at lower elevations where you can do trekking, and they are the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek, Langtang Valley Treks, and Mardi Himal Trek.

Everest Base Camp Trek during the Monsoon

Phakding

The monsoon is the rainy season, which falls from July to August. During the monsoon, the environment is all wet due to the rain, and even some people don't like to walk in the rain.

During the monsoon, the flight to Lukla will not be certain due to rain and unpredictable weather, but there is an option to trek Everest Base Camp, taking a vehicle route up to Sallary and following the trekking route. It might take you a few extra days, but it will be worth it and safer than a flight.

Due to the uncertain flight to Lukla and heavy rain during the winter in Everest Base Camp Trek, trekkers may not like to do Everest Base Camp Trek, but instead you can plan your trip to Upper Mustang Trek. There is less chance of rain and a different beauty of Nepal than Everest Base Camp.

 Conclusion

In conclusion, autumn and spring will be the best times for you to trek Everest Base Camp, when you will encounter beautiful, lush landscapes and aerial vistas of snow-capped mountains.
