154 guides to trekking in Nepal: routes, costs, permits and the best time to go.
The main autumn treks in Nepal are Everest Base Camp, the Annapurna Circuit, Annapurna Base Camp, the Manaslu Circuit, Langtang Valley, and Mardi Himal Trek. They run from late September to November, when Nepal enters its peak travel season. The shortest way to choose is by height and time: the Annapurna Circuit is a long loop of 160 to 230 km, while Mardi Himal Trek suit trekkers who want a lower, shorter walk. Autumn is when most people want to be on a Nepali trail, and that is where the trouble starts. The season brings clear air and a long list of routes, and each one asks something different from you. The Annapurna Circuit crosses Thorong La at 5,416 m, while the base camp on the Mardi Himal route lies at 4,500 m. A route that is too high or too long for your schedule leaves little room to acclimatize.
